A nicer way to enjoy coffee...?


1 tbsp of coffee
110g plain flour
110g golden caster sugar
110g unsalted butter
2 medium eggs
1 tsp baking powder
200ml double cream
3 tbsp black coffee
30g icing sugar
Chocolate powder to dust
Chocolate covered coffee beans to decorate


  1. Preheat the oven to 200C
  2. Blend the cocoa with 2 tbsp of boiling hot water, leave to cool
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar
  4. Beat the eggs into the mixture
  5. Sift and fold the dry ingredients into the mixture
  6. Stir in the cocoa paste into the mixture
  7. Divide into cake cases
  8. Bake in the oven for about 18 minutes until risen and springy to the touch
  9. Leave the cakes to cool
  10. Whisk together the cream, icing sugar and coffee until it forms a thick paste
  11. Decorate the cakes with the cream mixture
  12. Dust the cakes with chocolate powder and add a chocolate covered coffee bean
