A quick, easy and inexpensive recipe for satay sauce.


100ml peanut butter
1/2 large onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 tsp fish sauce
1 small red chilli
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
200ml water
1 lemon, juice only
1 tbsp vegetable oil


  1. Chop the onion, garlic and chilli and quickly fry in the vegetable oil.
  2. Add peanut butter, fish sauce, sugar and soy sauce.
  3. Food-process until it reaches the correct consistency.
  4. Add the water, bring to the boil.
  5. Simmer for 10 mins.
  6. Add lemon juice and salt to taste.
